Twenty years ago we did not know about computers and certainly not about the Internet technology. Today, we use both of these inventions on a wide scale and it is no longer a surprise that children are so much into it. For them, the computer has both an educational and entertaining purpose, revealing an entire world of opportunities and there a few great men we can be thankful as parents. If you haven't heard before about Kids Juke Box and its president, Kurt Penberg, let me tell you it's high time that you did.

Knowing very well how hard it is to find something that your child is attracted to, Kurt Penberg has developed a company - Kids Juke Box - providing personalized music for children. In a short period of time, he became quite successful and that is because of one single reason: that man knows how to provide products that are highly entertaining and particularly attractive for the little ones. With Kids Juke Box and the personalized music CDs, children worldwide have discovered something new and exciting, completely different from many obsolete toys.

We all think that we can make a difference when it comes to children but let's face it, how many of us actually go ahead and take action? Having extensive knowledge in the field of business and being a truly entrepreneurial spirit, Kurt Penberg has initiated the Kids Juke Box Company, hoping to make a difference on his own. He has definitely succeeded as there are a lot of parents interested to purchase the personalized music CDs, all of them being conscious of how much their kids will enjoy a song with their name mentioned over 40 times. From new-sprung babies to those who have already entered primary school, these personalized songs will dazzle the hearts of your small ones and make you happy to have chosen the right gift.

How many times have you purchased kids songs and discovered surprised that your child is actually bored with them? Apart from a few, yet very popular songs they all sound the same and parents should not be amazed that their children do not find them as entertaining. Kids Juke Box, the project pioneered by the same Kurt Penberg is different because it makes the child feel a part of the song; the mentioning of the name might not seem important but it actually is. As a parent, you will notice how the child opens up to the songs played on the personalized CD and surely smile to the hearing of his/her name. Having an incredible collection of names, it is practically impossible that they can't personalize a CD for your kid. If they don't have the name, you can rest assured as Kurt Penberg has already taken this possibility into consideration. All you have to do is to mention the name and the product will be personalized for you. By contributing to the growth of the name database, you will help other kids feel happy and that is what Kids Juke Box is all about, making children happy.

There are many great things to be said about a man like Kurt Penberg but definitely the most important one is how he has managed to persevere and continue reaching the highest levels of success. It is definitely impressing how many souls the personalized music CDs have touched and how many more parents become interested every day in the personalized products from Kids Juke Box. Trying to cover the demands of a very sophisticated and complex customer market, Kurt Penberg has continued to expand the personalized products, including growth charts and electronic story books. Without a doubt, with any of the products purchased online from the ecommerce website of Kurt Penberg, your child will feel really special and loved.

When you're the President of such an incredible company, you know that only great things await you. It must be a wonderful feeling to know that you can provide kids with the music they love and include their name in order to make to whole thing even more unique. Kurt Penberg is definitely a man with an eye for business but he also knows the importance of feeding the minds that are going to be tomorrow's adults, with entertaining and educational songs, personalized especially for every child!

The Singer 221 Featherweight is not a complicated little sewing machine. If you are wanting to know how to oil it there are manuals that cover that. If you are wanting to know how to make a blind stitch there are manuals that cover that.

When your machine is skipping a stitch, thread getting caught in the rotary, the machine won't pick up the bottom thread or another problem, you probably like an answer because you would like to get back to sewing again, right.

Well I would like to give you some of those answers. I would be more than happy to give you some of the answers to your problems. I have been a professional sewing machine repairman for years. Most of your questions are not difficult if you have the expertise to answer the questions that come up when you run into trouble sewing.

Quilting, Sewing and the Singer 221 Featherweights are all part of the same history.

I enjoyed the book "The Perfect Portable" and I see the author has spent time to put together facts. I know some of the information is not exactly accurate but it is a nice history of the Singer Featherweight sewing machine. She covers years of nice details.

If you question some of her ideas in the book and want to read some interesting differences in her ideas compared to mine on the Singer 221 Featherweights read on.

Quilters have been using these machines for a very long time and they may not care about the differences. Mostly the repair men who keep the machine running for the quilters are concerned about the difference when buying parts.

Nancy talked about a number of different models in her book, but there are people that have never seen some of these models.

They are not everywhere and some people have searched for a long period of time to come up empty handed in their search for any kind of a featherweight.

There is a project call the Pink Singer 221 Featherweights and it show other Singer 221 featherweight lovers that it don't hurt if the machine is not black. If they are in very poor condition an in need of a paint job it is better that the little machine is painted and fixed up to keep them around as a piece of sewing history.

If they wear down to metal and are not painted they begin to corrode. Then they become useless to anyone. The worst thing that a person can do with the little 221 is to leave it sit with no oiling or cleaning.

It seems if you leave them in a garage or closet with no use for long periods of time they will draw moister and the carrying case will start to get a mildew smell to it.

The second worst thing a singer 221 featherweight machine lover can do is not use the machine. I started working on Singer machines when I was very small. My father was a Singer sewing machine salesman. He would bring home old treadle machines and let me tear them down. At first I would just take them apart, but after a while I started putting them back together. When I was in high school I started servicing machines for a company as a part time job. In the past couple of years I have personally and professionally taken care of over 500 Singer 221 Featherweights. My article is here to help the new sewing novice with problems so they do not get disgusted with a machine before the fun starts.

I have a last quick minute note and that is when you start your machine always start your hand wheel with the needle started in the downward position. That one thing will save you a lot of frustration. If you are not starting it in a downward motion the thread will hang-up in the rotary and cause the breaking of thread. You will think the worst and feel you need a service man.

In the radio industry, a song's popularity is measured by the demand for the song based on the volume of requests from listeners and sales. The Top 40 is a well known method of measuring the popularity of music tracks over a specified time period, which can be anywhere from a week to a year. Top 40 play back became a dominant radio format during the 1960's and persisted until the 1980's. You can always find your favorite Top 40 music on internet radio.

You may be wondering how Top 40 works. What is the manner in which the Top 40 are determined and how does a particular song make it to the top? We will offer you an explanation. Each week, the 100 most popular songs are put into a chart by Billboard. The Billboard chart is based on a national sample of top radio airplay and music sales.

The Top 40 songs are subsequently taken from the chart compiled by Billboard.

Airplay is the first process in determining the songs to be included in the Top 40. Broadcast Data Systems (BDS), which is operated by Neilsen, calculates airplay for all songs. BDS uses a certain technology called digital pattern-recognition to capture songs that are being played on radio stations and music channels all over the US and Canada. This recognition process is run 24/7 and captures over 100 million songs annually; the data gathered is then used by Billboard in compiling weekly charts.

The second method used in Top 40 determination is the number of sales that are reported from music stores for particular albums. To track sales, Billboard then uses Sound Scan, another technology developed by Neilsen that keeps track of record sales all over the US and Canada.

When we purchase an album, sales data from the barcode is passed to Sound Scan and the stored data is compiled and published weekly.

The methodology of Billboard in weighting the compiled data has changed over time. In the past, sales were give an ten percent weight with ninety percent of the determination weighted on air play. Now, they use 80% airplay and 20% sales because of shifting trends in how many people listen to radio versus how many people actually purchase singles. You can search for the Top 40 via online radio.

Most recording artists' goal is to sell albums, and for albums to sell, their songs must be popular on the radio. If a song can make it to the Top 40, a huge increase in sales generally follows. Top 40 has been a measuring stick for album sales and the trend will likely continue.

If an artist does not make the Top 40 it does not necessarily make for a lack of success. Not all musicians are after big sales after all. Some are happy making a living and enjoying the artistic aspect of their craft.

The Top 40 is an useful tool to determine which artists popularity are on the rise and which are stagnating.

Ahh, the 70's. Muhammad Ali, Mark Spitz, Vietnam, China and Watergate. What about Star Wars, disco, Atari and video cassettes? How about the New York City blackout, Kent State and disco? A pretty amazing decade, but, I'm not talking about those 70's. I'm talking about you and your seventies!

Becoming seventy is far away, maybe 10, 20, 30 or even 40 years off. When it comes, I'm sure you want to be living a great life. There are a few essential ingredients required for that decade to be great; one of them is your independence.

What will give you your independence in your seventies is not what gives you your independence today. The environment you live in will need to be different; you will have to ready it for your arrival. The good news is that there is nothing to invent and no mystery to unravel - it's already invented and solved. To prepare your environment for ongoing independence you need two words: universal design.

What is universal design? It is an approach to designing products and environments that doesn't discriminate on the basis of age or ability.

It means that a home, for example, can function equally well for a child, an adult, an elder or a person with a physical limitation either temporary or permanent. Right now, we don't build homes that way; we build homes for one type of person, an able-bodied adult.

Universal design unlocks the gate to living large in your seventies (and many other decades of living) but it doesn't overcome another rather large obstacle, your fear of aging. Ask me about my seventies and I get squirmy and try to change the subject. I don't want to think about it. When I do, I don't have positive associations.

I think of slowing down, weakening strength and failing body parts. Shudder! Planning for my seventies? Mañana!

Unfortunately, mañana isn't a winning formula. Without planning, I'll stumble into my seventies. I'll have fewer options. I'll be treading water to stay afloat rather than living large. The question that emerges is, how can I get excited about taking actions today that won't seem to matter for years?

There's a trick.

Begin by remembering an adventuresome vacation you took. There you were, time off from work, where to go? You did your research, talked to friends and, voila, Costa Rica would be your destination! Step two was to hone the plans: pick a hotel, a flight, activities, etc. Finally you book the trip. Excitement bubbled within; you were going to Costa Rica! Did you walk into work the next day all ho-hum? No, you couldn't wait to tell friends and co-workers about your forthcoming trip! After work, did you just head home? No, you hit the stores and bought snorkeling gear, a fishing rod and some suntan lotion. Hardly a day passed without some excitement and preparation for the coming trip.

It's the same for your seventies. The only thing that's different is the destination. Much like a vacation, there is a block of time in your future that's open and can be planned as you see fit. Begin by imagining what you want it to look like. This is an important step. As you imagine your seventies, be unreasonable. Let nothing hold your imagination back. Be vivid. Be unbridled in your creativity. If you have an idea and it doesn't excite you or put a smile on your face, cross it off and imagine something else. Keep going until becoming seventy couldn't happen soon enough.

Good questions to ask yourself during this stage are: Who am I? Am I rich in wealth? Am I rich in spirit? Am I rich in love? Do I live in a warm climate or a cold? City or country? A big community or a small one? Near family or far away?

As this picture of yourself in your seventies emerges, map it out. Write it in a journal, collage it or make a scrapbook of ideas. With a clear picture of your seventies that makes you excited, we now need to work toward the present - is there an action you could take today? Steps from this imagined future toward the present will be large at first and as we get closer to the present, will become smaller. The end of this journey will be the present, and, in this present, you will be clear on an action to take that will bring you toward living large in your seventies.

Let me walk you through it using myself as an example: I'm a New Yorker, but, I have a "hankering" for Montana; I want to be in Montana for my seventies. I'll have an apartment in New York and will visit frequently. I'm still married to my wife and we have a joyous vibe that attracts lots of visitors. The house is on the North Fork in the Bitterroot valley - lots of trout. I have a big porch that faces west, and, I can drive from the land onto the porch and into the house with my rugged ATV-ish, Smart scooter. For some reason, that picture of seventy really excites me.

Step toward the present, to age sixty. At sixty, I got to have things pretty set up so that ten years out I'm living this dream. I'll be familiar with Montana having visited for long periods. I'll be members in local clubs and have my first Montana friends. I'll know where I want to live and be ready financially to purchase land and a home. I'll be "shovel ready."

Jump toward the present another ten years: what do I got to have at fifty so that that vision at sixty is ready? I need to be building equity, I'll begin visiting Montana regularly, I'll be in my peak earning years and kids will be all educated freeing up additional capital to set aside.

Jump again toward the present but in a shorter time jump, five years. At 45, what do I got so that the vision at 50 is ready? I'm building my value at work and earning more, I'm buying some of that equity that's gonna grow, and I'm raising a family. One year from now, I'm finishing my research on being seventy in Montana. How about three months from now? I'm in the middle of my visioning and research. And how about right now? Right now, I'm beginning my research. Right now, I'm Googling universal design and thinking about being seventy in a whole new way.

If at the beginning, I asked you, "What are you doing today so that being seventy is gonna be great?" You might have squirmed, said you had an IRA and changed the subject. Instead, you have a new answer, Google universal design resource and start forming an idea of what you'll need to keep the independence you love.

Wow. Living large in the seventies is possible - and exciting. When you get there, it will be ready for you. Your independence will be as present as it is today. Opportunities won't diminish, they'll continue. Sure, it will all look different. But best of all, you'll still get to be you.

Who can forget Amos & Andy or George Burns, or a Date with Judy? Indeed listening to old radio shows on MP3 can give you one thing: nostalgia. It's more like thinking of Frank Sinatra or the ABC's magically sung by The Jackson Five.

There are so many things that you can look back to when it comes to radio. Before the television killed its popularity, there was a Golden Age of radio. Incidentally, that was also the time when people knew how and what to listen.

Why would you look back to the Grand Days of radio? One good reason is that the comedies are one of a kind. Let's take for example Take It from Here, which happens to be one of the most influential comedy radio shows starred by Dick Bentley, Jimmy Edwards, June Whitfield and Wallas Eaton. Who can forget the catch phrase "Oh, Ron!" and the immortal response "Oh Eth!" that became part of every household.

You have to give it up for the great writers Frank Muir and Dennis Norden.

Here's another comedy to note: The Last Goon Show of All. This is a rare chance to hear the greatest radio comedy team as they reunited to celebrate BBC's 50 years. This eventful day took place in April 1972 when Neddie Seagoon, Hercules Grytpype-Thynne, Eccles and Bluebottle got together and were heard at the Camden Theatre. It was a hilarious and a major historic event in broadcasting that even the pre-show warm up was broadcast. You can make it immortal as you listen to this once in a lifetime event on your MP3 player.

Then we have the Al Read old time radio show. It's high time you knew why 35 million got hooked to his radio show and how he was touted as the brilliant observer of the domestic scene or the master observer of life.

Salman Rushdie said it clearly in his book: Midnight's Children that in order to understand a life one must swallow the world. Al Read must have been a genius at swallowing the whole world through every household. That's what people remember him by.

And what about It's That Man Again? Considered as the giant in radio's history, its number of listeners numbered to about tens of millions as its star has been the most popular performer in any field in British Arts.

On the other hand, radio is a versatile medium and that's why you won't be surprised to have a thriller like Journey into Space: Operation Luna in many episodes. The first episode was an attempt for radio to come up with a science fiction plot. It was timely as space exploration was about to start and has gained the attention of most countries. The writer Charles Chilton himself was a member of the British Astronomical Association. You would never want to miss listening to the show as it was starred by the best talents that any radio show can have. That includes Scots Shakespearean actor Andrew Faulds and veteran actor Wilfred Walter.

Among the many options for old time radio shows, you would wonder how this great medium had finally come to an end. Then you can claim if TV had given justice to the radio charm.
