Thanks so much for uploading these gems. As a guy who once pondered a career in radio, I think Casey Kasem is one of the kings. He seemed to have a lot of fun doing this, which must be why he did it for so very long. I miss hearing him every week, but we have these memories.
To me, American Top 40 was probably at its best during 1984 to the spring of 1987. The Shadoe Stevens era, starting in 1988, was not that great (at least since 1990). And don’t get me started on how much I hated (and still hate) the Ryan Seacrest era – I listen to AT40 a lot less now than when Casey Kasem hosted.
Oh I’m back again just to say that from my childhood there is another voice that is great for me.It was the voice of Ernie Anderson the voice of ABC. I loved the way how he was saying “The looove boat”! ( speaking of jingles the one for ABC’s movie sunday night in the 82-83 was amazing)!): That’s all folks

The Top 40, or top forty, whether surveyed by a radio station or a publication, was a list of songs that shared only the common characteristic of being newly released. Its popularity coincided with the rapid changes in recording technology in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1954, the recording industry agreed upon a standard recording format for higher fidelity music, so any new record player could play any new record. Also in that year, new single records were released on 45 rpm records, and the Top 40 thereafter became a survey of the popularity of these records. Tape recording had become perfected, allowing artists more freedom as they composed songs, especially novelty songs.

It was later determined that Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr, backed up George Harrison, on, ‘All those years ago.’
